Do you want to turn over a new leaf?
The metaphor of a "leaf" in this context likely comes from the idea of turning the pages of a book or a chapter, signifying a new beginning or a change in direction. It may also be related to the changing of leaves on trees in different seasons, symbolizing a natural cycle of renewal and change. (I can relate to both of these.)
The phrase has been used in English literature and conversation for a long time, with examples dating back to the 16th century. Over the years, it has become a common way to describe personal growth, self-improvement, or starting afresh after a period of difficulty or mistakes.
I want to turn over a new leaf. Or, more specifically, fit into the my closetful of cute clothes.
According to a workshop I attended, there are six things you need to change and if you do all six, change is guaranteed.
1. Know the WHY. My why is the clothes, but also because I enjoy transformation.
2. Have the KNOW-HOW. Do you have an action plan? Here's mine--I'm going to eat 1,400 protein-rich calories a day and record it on my diet ap.
3. Create a supportive ENVIRONMENT. This means stocking my kitchen with healthy foods and relegating my husbands not-so-healthy choices to a not-for-me cupboard.
4. Hook up with LIKEMINDED FOLKS. I'm lucky to belong to a small private Facebook group of women that have been incredibly successful at achieving and maintaining their ideal weight.
5. Find a MENTOR. For me, this will be the moderator of the Facebook group.
6. Create a REWARD SYSTEM. This can be anything you consider a splurge. For me, if I use my diet ap everyday for a week, I'm going to buy a month pass to my favorite yoga studio.
In my current work in progress, my main character, Belle, makes a radical change when she flees Los Angeles and heads to Cascadia, Washington. It's a Schitts Creek meets Safe Haven story.
How about you? What changes do you want to make?
