#MondayMotivation Bob Mayer's Who Dares Wins

Coco and Bob Mayer's book, Who Dares Wins

The other day, I picked up this book I first read in 2017. I didn't remember a lot about it, except that I liked it.

As I was skimming through it, I came across this page.

What struck me was what I had written on the side (in pencil, so it might be hard to read. My goal was to write 1,000 words A WEEK. That blew my mind. Since then, I've had a number of 15,000 word DAYS--even though those are rare, they have happened. I can now write 5,000 words in a DAY, though I usually choose not to. I really have improved in the last five years! The words are easier to find now than they once were and I instinctively know when a story is flowing rather than flailing and I can make adjustments.

This experience reminds me of a quote I once heard, although I can't remember where. It's important to define what success means for you, not so that you can beat yourself up when you don't achieve it, but so you can celebrate when you have. If you never define it, you'll never know you've gotten there.

A long time ago, I defined success as being paid for blessing people's lives by doing something I love. That's still a worthy goal, and one I accomplished a long time ago, but I'm ready to level up and create a new definition. I'm going to reread Bob Mayer's book to come up with my new definition of success.
