Would You Like to Read and Review Telling Tales?

About four years ago, my friend Greta Boris and I co-wrote a book. It was a different sort of animal than either of us typically write. For me, it’s a shade darker, more literary, and less romancing. It revolves around a serious crime. For Greta, it’s lighter, more faith-based, less suspenseful, or murderous. We both love it, but because we weren’t sure what to do with it, it languished.

Here’s how the story came about. We were discussing books, and Greta was talking about a novel that had nine points of view characters. Sometimes, the exact same scene would be told from different characters’ points of view. Same events, but is told from different perspectives. I told Greta about a church event held in my home. For a variety of reasons, I spent the evening feeling angry and tense. The next morning, a woman who had attended called to tell me the evening had changed her life. The message, the music, and the spirit had touched her heart…and I had been so wound up and concerned about trivial things, I completely missed it. Greta said, “If you don’t use that experience in a book, I will.” We compromised and wrote the book together. What did that look like? We took long walks and brainstormed the plot. Then, on Tuesdays for several weeks, we would each write our chapters and take turns reading them out loud. Because we had already outlined the book, only a few minor changes were typically necessary. We hired an editor, enlisted a few beta readers, and hired a cover designer. And now, it’s ready for you.
